Within Ben Cruachan, also known as Hollow Mountain, on the shores of Loch Awe Near Oban is the Cruachan Hydro Electric Power Station.

A power station built one kilometre below ground in what is essentially a hollowed out mountain. A massive cavern contains enormous turbines, which convert the power of water into electricity.

The only visible features are the dam, 1,300 ft up the mountain and 1,000 ft wide, and the visitor centre itself.

Cruachan Power station is also the setting for several films, including the James Bond film 'The World is not Enough.' An amazing feat engineering achievement, which will not fail to amaze you.
