The Wells and Mendip Museum was founded in the late 19th Century by Herbert Balch, a keen local naturalist, caver and geologist. The museum holds many interesting finds including the skeleton of the solitary witch that lived in the deep caverns of Wookey Hole (so legend tells it).

The museum has a range of gifts and publications that are available in the museum shop. There is also a range of books on local history, caving and general interest which can be view by appointment with the honorary librarian.
