Shady Brook offers the perfect escape; enjoy the tranquillity of the fresh country air and surrounds. The ambiance invites people to relax and restore from hectic lifestyles.

Shady Brook Cottages provides the choice between one and two bedroom cottages that feature modern furnishings with a relaxed country feel, full modern kitchen and a spacious living area. The cottages feature an outside living area or verandah with BBQ facilities. Two bedroom cottages feature spas and fireplaces. All cottages have air conditioning and heating. Laundry facilities, DVD library and on site internet are available.

Harrietville is the closest town to the base of Mount Hotham and buses at the doorstep makes this sleepy little town a must for snow skiers. The Gourmet Food & Wine region is a short drive through scenic bush

History
Located 332 km north-east of Melbourne, Harrietville is a former goldmining town, which was reputedly named Harriet's Vale after the first white baby to visit the area. Settled in 1852 by goldminers it became a resting place for those en route to the Omeo, Dargo and Glen Wills goldfields. Reef mining commenced in the area in 1861 as alluvial gold became scarce. At one point 348 reefs were officially registered. Plenty of History and a small local musems will fill your mind with the old gold rush years. High Country huts where you can meet the spirit of the old cattleman are only 40kms away in Dinner plain. Take short tour to Beechworth reknown for its bakery, boutique style shop and of course the historical town of Ned Kelly. Or to Rutherglen & Glenrowan of Ned Kellys last stand.

Shady Brook set on river flats with 5 acres of magnificent landscaped gardens planted 100 of exotic trees, 1000s of flowering shrubs such as Camellias, rhododendrons and roses but many many more. 1km to the Great Alpine Road will lead you to Morries Icecreamy where you can part take in homemade icecream, excellent coffee & amazing light lunches. There are private walking tracks up into the bush on the adjoining mountain into a fern gully and out on to ridges with old gold mines and magnificent views of snow clad mountains. Take a picnic and sit in your own seclusion in the midst of it and relax. There is an abundance of wildlife that can be seen at Shadybrook, bright parrots of all sizes, superb wrens, lyre birds, wild ducks; possum, wombats, wallaby and deer are regular visitors.
