Local Area
Located in Victoria's North East, at the junction of the Goulburn and Jamieson rivers, Jamieson was first settled as a supply town for gold prospectors working in the rugged High Country. At its peak Jamieson had a population of 3-4000. Today permanent residents total 130 and Jamieson still remains a popular relaxing tourist destination with easy access to all the High Countrys special features - local wineries and food producers, great fishing and boating, skiing and snowboarding, historical and river walks, alpine trails, bushwalking and spectacular sightseeing. In autumn, Jamieson is alive with colour as the many european trees put on a stunning red and gold display while in spring and summer, colourful parrots and rosellas provide a lively contrast to their beautiful green foilage.
Further Information
In winter, the snow fields of Mount Buller are an easy hours drive away. Go the scenic route and call in at Kinloch and Delatite Wineries to pick up a bottle or two to wind down with at days end. Take a relaxing drive up into King Valley, renowned for its varietal white and red wines and delicious local food produce. Stop at for lunch at Station Creek Cafe and try one of their Chardonnays with a delicious cold platter, maybe a Sangiovese with local cheese at Pizzinis, or a crisp, cool climate Reisling at Chrismont. Finish the afternoon off at Milawa Cheese Factory where you can sample and buy from the regions largest array of Cheese. Back at Jamieson, stroll into town and visit the Historical Museum, take the scenic river/Island Walk, or simply put your feet up, relax & enjoy the day.

I've stayed at Jamieson Cottages a number of times over the years. Jamieson is my favourite country visit - so much scenery, great weather and loads to do. In the last 12 months it has undergone a metamorphosis with new ownership (still in the same family) injecting new life into these roomy, limestone cottages by the Jamieson River ... Read More
