Realising how vunerable the Cathederal was, the work started on one of the most spectacular palaces in Wales. A motte and bailey fort was built first followed by the walls that still stand.

The remains of the Bishops of St Davids principle palace are located alongside the Cathedral in the tranquil valley of the river Alun. This would have been the finest collection of buildings in Wales during the medieval period. A great hall built by Bishop Henry de Gower, is still a showpiece. With a large wheel window located at the far wall.

There are guided tours around the Palace and there is a guidebook, giftshop and displays in the undercrofts detailing the power and wealth of the medieval bishops.
