Believed to be the oldest house in Latrobe, Sherwood Hall was built between 1848 and 1850 by pioneer Thomas Johnson, and is one of the most unique wooden colonial homes in Australia.
After a major flood in 1970 nearly destroyed the house and left it unsuitable for living, it was decided that this piece of history should be restored and preserved for generations to come.
In 1991, Sherwood Hall was relocated to Bell's Parade and the massive job of preserving the colonial building begun. Sherwood Hall was officially reopened on Tasmania Day, 26th November, in 1995, which also marked the 150 year anniversary of Thomas Johnson and Dolly Dalrymple coming to the Sherwood and Tarleton area.
