Built 250 years ago as a farmhouse, the Machrie became a hotel at the turn of the century. With a choice of sea or mountain views from every room, the natural beauty of the Island is around you at every moment.
The Machrie offers the ideal balance: a famous classic links golf course perched above the golden sands of Laggan bay - an unforgettable golfing experience - combined with a hotel and lodges run with the warmth and informality that brings people back time and again.
Machrie have 15, two-bedroom lodges, in a smart, clean design with picture windows, they are fitted out to give you the freedom to enjoy your holiday, with all the added comforts and facilities of the hotel just nearby. The Standard lodges are comfortably furnished, with cooker and fridge and have cooking utensils, cutlery, crockery, bed linen and towels. The Superior lodges also have a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge and cooker. One of the two bathrooms in these is en-suite. With a sofa bed in each, they can sleep up to six people.
Enjoy a meal in their acclaimed restaurant, where a wide range of fresh local produce is prepared with imagination and flair. You can move through into one of the cosy bars, and start getting to know some (or all) of Islay's famous single malt whiskies. The Machrie team can help you book distillery visits, suggest the best routes for nature and bird-watching walks, coastal rambles, fishing, horse-riding, cycling or historic sightseeing.
