The Alpine Discovery Centre was opened by the Victorian State Treasurer on December the 18th 2003. The State Government and the Alpine Shire fund the Centre as it is a major educational attraction for the Mt Beauty and the greater Alpine area.
The Centre provides an educational and entertaining insight into the development of the upper Kiewa Valley , including the towns of Tawonga, Tawonga South and Mount Beauty, and Falls Creek.
As well as static displays there are two Plasma screens that display entertaining perspectives of the history and current appeal of Mount Beauty and Falls Creek. There is also an interactive mountain bike DVD that appeals to young and old alike. Also of interest is a working miniature Hydro Electric plant simulating those in the area.
