Originally built as a farmstead in 1747, this four-star award winning Inn and Restaurant features a cosy bar with open fire, sunny walled beer-garden, excellent bar meals and a la carte menus (including vegetarian) using fresh, local produce, good choice of wines, 5 cask ales and a wide range of bottle conditioned beers from local micro-breweries.

Taken over in 2005 by Richard and Dee Slade, Battlesteads has quickly gained a reputation for its character and warm welcome as a friendly, family run hotel. Ideal for exploring Northumberland, Border country, Hadrian's Wall and Keilder Forest whether by car, cycle or on foot.

Battlesteads has 17 en-suite rooms with colour television, free view, ironing boards and hairdryer, all carefully modernised to provide comfortable accommodation. Four ground floor rooms have facilities for the disabled. Broadband access is available in all rooms.

Restaurant/Bar: The restaurant offers a wide range of meals and snacks freshly prepared in Battlesteads own kitchens. Chefs source the best of local ingredients to ensure freshness and flavour, including game and Cheviot reared lamb as well as prime Northumbrian Angus beef. Fish and seafood are sourced from North Shields Fish Quay. Vegetarian choices are always available. Residents with special dietary needs are welcome to discuss their requirements with the chef. A range of traditional roast dinners featuring locally reared beef, lamb and pork are available at the popular Sunday Carvery, all at set prices. Dinner is served from 6.30pm, last orders 9.30pm

Nearest railway station is Hexham, rail link from Newcastle or Carlisle. Trains run every hour. The bus service 880 (to Bellingham via Wark) runs hourly from Hexham bus station and outside of the railway station.
