Local Area: Shepparton (population 28000) is the city centre of the Goulburn Valley, known as the food bowl of Australia. The city is located on the banks of the Goulburn River, a two hour (179 km) drive north of Melbourne on the Goulburn Valley Highway. It offers a wide range of year round activities and has all the attractions you'd expect in a large regional city. Mooroopna (population 5260) is separated from Shepparton by the river and a large tract of state forest and joined by a causeway. Local industry includes two enormous fruit canneries (SPC and Ardmona), Campbell's Soups, a foundry and a woollen mill. Other attractions include Kidstown, Heritage Farm, museums, art galleries, and local wineries.
