Ian and Jenny Morphy of the Old George and Dragon Restaurant (the subject of luminous reviews in many publications) are celebrating 25 happy years as owners and chefs. This now legendary restaurant is housed in a historic former Inn built in 1837. The interior transports you into another era - high ceilings, open fires, rich fabrics and flowers everywhere.

Sourcing only the best ingredients, the chef writes the menu daily according to the availability of fresh produce. The wine list is a wine lovers dream - over 300 wines including a good list of wines by the glass, half bottles, local sparkling, champagnes, white and red wines from all over Australia as well some exceptional French and Italian wines.

The Old George and Dragon Restaurant is situated just a five minute drive from the historic river port of Morpeth and most of the Hunters famous vineyards are within a 45 minute drive as are Newcastle beaches and Lake Macquarie.

History: The Old George and Dragon was formerly The George and Dragon Inn. The Inn held licence no. 4 in New South Wales when it was first built back in 1837. The existing building has had some changes to the facade and the interior, which had some unsympathetic renovations last century, have been brought back to reflect a more elegant 19th century atmosphere.
