The Newcastle Region Maritime Museum will be centrally situated on Newcastle's harbour foreshore, in an old cargo shed which is currently undergoing restoration. The vision is that it will become a centre of excellence for maritime related education and recreation.

With a vast collection of maritime history in the form of objects and information, the Maritime Centre will offer an exciting and educational experience. The president has stated, "The Maritime Centre will be the hub of the surrounding maritime precinct, a place to experience our harbour and maritime heritage, a place that will be a 'must see' on your visit list."

Located an easy two hours drive from Sydney, Newcastle is a modern beachside city boasting a spectacular coastline, a rich Aboriginal and European heritage and fabulous weather. Newcastle is soon to have one more attraction for its myriad of visitors.
