The bushland and open space of Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area, established in 1996, lines 16 kilometres of foreshore in six different sections around the lake.
The coastal and lake foreshore forest is an important habitat for kangaroos, wallabies, gliders, and many birds. This is an excellent place for fishing and boating, picnicking and bushwalking, and for observing the local wildlife.
