With easy access to ocean beaches, the safe waters of the estuary and three rivers running into the Peel inlet, Mandurah is a natural centre for water sports and fishing. The area's main attraction is the natural beauty of its estuarine waters. These shelter the town and cover an area of 155 sq kms, providing ideal conditions for all types of boating and fishing activities. The southern shores of these inland waters contain one of the most important bird habitats in the South West of the state.

River prawns may be caught in the Murray and Serpentine rivers during early summer and king prawns "run" on their way out to sea, during autumn. The peel inlet and Mandurah estuary also produce excellent blue manna crabs during late summer and autumn. Popular fishing spots are the landings under the two Mandurah traffic bridges, but for those with a boat, there is an extensive waterway to explore.
