Aboriginal rock carvings, shady waterhole and tranquil setting close to the Great Northern Highway makes a trip to Wanna Munna by Four Wheel Drive only a must.
Situated 76 kilometres north of Newman and two kilometres off the highway, this is an easily accessed destination suitable for a one day outing or overnight stay.
The site is protected by the Museum Trust and care should be taken not to damage the rock carvings. Many animal and human images are etched into the rocks forming a small gorge on the upper reaches of the Weeli Wolli Creek.
A walk downstream passes by several larger pools where kangaroos and other local animals come to drink. About two kilometres downstream is a number of large formations of colourful banded rock straddling the river like a wall.
