The Macedon Ranges wine region is a large elevated plain surrounded by the mountains of the Great Dividing Ranges and Central Victorian Highlands. It features cool climate sparkling wines grown in predominantely volcanic soils.
The region is divided in two distinct districts separated in geographically by the Great Dividing Range. In the south, centred around the townships of Gisborne, Romsey and Lancefield, the production of table wines and sparkling wines. Whilst, in the north around the towns of Kyneton, Malmsbury and Taradale, high quality award winning table wines are produced.
The Macedon Ranges are a great escape in summer to escape the heat. There are many cellar doors to be found as well as fine restaurants and accommodation.
The region is especially noted for its award winning production of sparkling white wine, mainly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
