The Peak District is Britain's first national park, established in 1951, it is now home to 38,000 people. The local economy is based on tourism, quarrying and farming. People come from all over the world to find tranquility and adventure, with many activities including cycling, walking and climbing, you'll never be lost of something to do.
The Peak District National Park Authority works with the local people and businesses to make sure the Park can be enjoyed today in ways that will preserve it in the future. They look into long term plans and policies that will protect the park's landscape.
The authority also help you if you're caring for listed buildings, preserving the traditional character of villages, protecting wildlife or bringing back native woodlands, there are currently 2,899 listed buildings, 109 conservation areas and 50,929 ha of moorland.
