St Mary in the Castle has now become a Community and Arts Centre for Hastings and yet at the same time is still used as a place of worship on Sundays. With over 175 years of history behind it, the Grade II listed building stands as one of Hasting's finest monuments.
This magnificent Georgian church, with its unique circular auditorium, was designed by the famous architect Joseph Kaye in 1823 for the Earl of Chichester.
The building was rescued from neglect and renovated in 1997 after which it was opened as a major arts centre. It now includes an impressive theatre space with semi-circular seating for 500 people, a large cinema screen, a meeting room and art gallery.
