Ararat - Moyston - Pomonal - Stawell - Great Western - Ararat (87km)

Barkly Street (the main street of Ararat) is the start of State Scenic Route 31.

The route first allows you to sample wine at the Cathcart Ridge Winery and the view from Carroll's Cutting.

Continue to Moyston, the birthplace of Australian Rules Football, and visit the Thomas Wills Memorial.

Continue to Pomonal which is renowned for its local plant nurseries and magnificent nursery gardens in Wildflower drive. Also visit the Lavender Garden and Pomonal Berries and Grampians Antiques.

Inspect the historic 120 year-old ¾ mile Pomonal Tunnel supplying water to Stawell from the Grampians. (Accessible from Tunnel Road)

At this point, you may choose to continue on to Halls Gap Wildlife Park & Zoo, The Gap Winery, Jinchilla Horse Drawn vehicles or Devilis Garden Horse Rides.

From Pomonal, the tour takes the Lake Fyans Tourist Road to Stawell. Lake Fyans is great for fishing, swimming, picnics or water sports. Further along visit Aboriginal Rock Painting at Bunjilis Shelter.

At Stawell, visit the famous Stawell Gift Museum, the Caspers World in Miniature and the Magdala Mine Site. Return to the Western Highway. At Great Western, visit Best's, Seppelt and garden Gully wineries as well as the Diggins Pottery and The Light Horse Museum.

Return to Ararat, take the time to enter McDonald Park, known for its magnificent indigenous flora and fauna. A visit to One Tree Hill Lookout is highly recommended. It provides the best views of the Grampians to the west, Mt Langi Ghiran to the east and the broad plains to the south.
