Scarborough Rugby club was formed in November 1926, when the only fifty rugby enthusiasts in Scarborough (who knew hardly anything about rugby), decided to meet up in the Pavilion Hotel, and the club was formed.
In January 2009, the Club moved into a £4m development at Silver Royd. This incorporates the J.M. Guthrie Clubhouse [the UK's largest amateur rugby clubhouse], a fully integrated rugby department, Barons Health & Fitness Centre [2 gyms, full size sports hall, and 2 squash courts], 3 bars, 2 function rooms, and a snooker room.
At the front of the building is parking for 300 cars and within the stadium compound are 5 senior pitches [2 floodlit], 5 junior pitches, and a floodlit training area.
Scarborough RUFC run a total of 18 teams across all age groups from under 6 to over 35.
