Construction of this Historic Railway started in 1845 with George's son Robert Stephenson as chief engineer. Providing a direct route from London to Holyhead, which is a main port to depart for Dun Laoghaire Ireland. The line is an essential feed from the mainland to Ireland, allowing the mail coaches of the day to gain quick access. Even though the route was largely along the coast, some bold engineering was needed, especially the high bridge across the Menai Strait.
Today this line is a busy connection from the rest of the UK to this region and onto Ireland. The line is used by passengers and industrial haulage. Passengers can view the fantastic scenery that the train passes by, on the latest passenger trains that service this route.
This train journey is seen by many enthusiasts as one of the best train journeys in the Country.
