There are two beaches at St. Mawes, Tavern Beach and Freshwater Beach. Tavern beach lies just below the 16th century St. Mawes Castle, built about 1542.
The larger beach, Freshwater lies to the east of Tavern beach and is a south-facing crescent of sand and rocks, which is quite popular in summer, largely due to its proximity to the ferry terminal for locals and tourists from Falmouth just across the water.
The beaches have all the facilities you need for a pleasant day at the seaside including, parking, toilets, tourist information, café, pub and shop and rescue equipment. The beaches have a seasonal dog ban and are family friendly.
