Located in Kuranda near Cairns in Far North Queensland, The Australian Vemon Zoo runs daily personalised, educational tours of their displays of Australian Tarantulas, Scorpions, Centipedes, Lizards and Snakes.

At the Australian Venom Zoo, the main focus is on captive breeding and displaying venomous animals that will one day be responsible for producing advanced medicines. The extraction of their venom is sent to bio-pharmaceutical companies all over the world for medical research.

The Zoo has been actively involved in caring for and breeding Australian Tarantulas since the mid eighties in North Queensland and holds an extensive collection of Australian specimens. So pop in and check out the zoo, watch a live venom extraction and see venomous animals you will not find in any other zoo on earth!

This place extracted $40 of my family's money for a 2 minute look at a couple of snakes in a disgracefully dirty and unsafe facility. A very poor advert for Cairns area tourism. ... Read More (Date of experience: Sep, 2011 )

Overall disapointing, Good Reptiles, Austaralian Tarantulas and Australian Scorpions but the place needs a good scrub. I foung all of the enclosures dirty and dusty.
