The rain-forested slopes of the Whitfield Range protect the closest rainforest to Cairns and form the city's backdrop. Walking tracks climb through shady rainforest gullies and dry open forest and grasslands.

Picnic at the lookout between the circuit walks. Most visitors encounter mound-building brush-turkeys, orange-footed scrub fowl and graceful honeyeaters.

Two linked circuit walks provide views over the city, Trinity Bay and the coast. Tackle the short but steep Red Arrow circuit. Add the more demanding Blue Arrow circuit walk with an optional sidetrack to a lookout at Mount Lumley Hill.
