Nanango is one of Queensland's oldest towns and is proud of its unique heritage and colourful past. Its here that you'll find The Seven Mile Gold Field, which takes its name from the distance it is along the Old Esk road, (7 miles/11klms) from the site of Goodes Inn.
Fossickers for gold still come to Seven-Mile Diggings, an area that is also popular with Four Wheel Drive enthusiasts. Back in its day, 7 Mile was never a rich field, no 'mother lode' was ever found, so the field never achieved the status of a Gympie or Palmer River. None the less, many people made useful sums from it and small quantities of gold can still be found today.
There is a lot of interesting history attached to this gold field and it is definitely worth taking a self guided tour through to soak up some good old fashioned history and maybe even find a little gold mine of your own!
