This walk extends beyond the Great Northern Mines Walk, following the trail up to the Herberton Firetrail. Just past the Ironclad is a small trail leading off the firetrail to the left. This is the start of the Stewart Head Walk.
The track travels upwards towards the ridge keeping predominantly to the south of the spine. Follow the trail along a series of hills, some quite steep. You'll find a sign indicating Stewart Head, which from this point is a 400-metre climb to the top, where the views are spectacular.
On your return to the sign, turn left, continuing down the trail towards the old quarries. Signage at the quarries points you back in the direction of Herberton, reaching White Street and a short walk back to the carpark.
