A trip to Central Queensland would not be complete without a visit to the Mount Morgan Historical Museum. It houses a comprehensive collection of items that were used in many aspects of Australian life.
The collection includes grinding stones, axe heads, spears (including a marvelous fishing spear), clubs and some photographs of the indigenous people that the early settlers encountered. There is also many household items such as mechanical devices used to wash clothes and wood-burning stoves. The museum houses a fine collection of horse-drawn buggies, wagons and carts as well as a lovely old sulky.
The walls of the museum are adorned with over 500 photographs that trace the history of the mine from its earliest days when gold-bearing rocks were dropped from the top of the mountain down a chute to the later large-scale open-cut operations.
