Alpha is branded the Town of Murals due to the 27 colourful murals painted on buildings throughout the town. Each mural depicts a different aspect of pioneering and contemporary rural life.

Two local artists Alice McLaughin and Benny Fuentes members of the Alpha Cultural Group decided to brighten up the town with their artistic skills after a devastating flood in the 1990's. The Murals pay tribute to this historic event.

Alpha was established in 1884 and is part of Jericho Shire, one of Queensland's largest cattle producing Shires. Located on the Capricorn Highway, its streets are named after poets.
