The Cullin-La-Ringo massacre, which occurred in central Queensland on 17 October 1861, was one of Australias largest killings of white settlers by native aborigines, and the largest in Queensland.
Of the 25 strong party led by Horatio Wills, 19 were murdered on the farming property of Cullin-La-Ringo. The six surviving members reported the event afterwards.
While ample written records testify to the European account of the massacre and its cause, Aboriginal descendants of the Kairi tribe have had to rely on oral history for their account of the day's tragic events.
