With a great view out on to the Hackney Marshes and the passing house boats on the River Lea, this small traditional pub is a Hackney gem. A lot has changed in London, but the Anchor & Hope is proof that some things still remain the same (up until 2003 it had the same landlord for 50 years).
Not easy to get to, but well worth the effort or Sunday stroll along the canals. Get to know the locals and sample some of the excellent beer, old traditional delicacies such as cockles and jellied eels are sometimes on the menu.
