Cobram and Barooga are separated by the Murray River, and are linked by a new bridge that has superceded the original one lane historic steel lift bridge that was built in 1902.

Cobram is a town with unusual street layout and history will tell you that it is the combination of an amiable environment and an energetic, ambitious community. The area surrounding the twin towns is rich in agriculture. The orchards produce a wide variety of fruit including apricots, nectarines, peaches & pears. Also well know in the area is the olive oil from Cobram estate. Cobram is also the home of Murray Goulburn Cooperative, which was formed in 1950 by fourteen local dairy farmers. Today more than 3000 farmers supply milk to the factory each day.

River camping around Cobram Barooga is extremely popular, with many families returning each year attracting many ski boats to the area. The section between Yarrawonga and Cobram boasts over one hundred beaches and a vast number of theses beaches can be accessed by vehicle. The Murray River area is well known for it s great variety of quality sporting facilities. At Cobram Barooga Golf Club, you have access to two championships golf courses. Barooga Sports Bowls Club offers modern synthetic bowling greens, flood lit tennis courts and a full size heated indoor heated pool. Fishing in the Murray River has attracted generations of anglers in search of Murray Cod, Murray Crayfish, golden perch and more.

The flat terrain along the river is very conducive to bushwalking and cycling and a myriad of tracks can be explored on both sides of the river. Thompsons beach with it s free BBQ facilities is a great starting point for these activities.
