Situated on the western edge of the Riverine Plain, 300km northwest of Melbourne, Kerang Wetlands forms part of a system of wetlands comprised of beautiful freshwater lagoons, lakes, marshes and saline/hypersaline lakes.

Covering an area of 9419 hectares - the Kerang Wetlands is the largest Ibis rookery in Victoria, with over 200,000 Ibis nesting each spring. The perfect viewing times are at dawn and dusk, when thousands of Ibis and other birds leave or return to their nests.

Kerang Wetlands is a popular recreation and tourism venue, perfect for sightseeing, bird watching, fishing, boating, swimming, and sailing. It's also a popular subject for artists and photographers.

The Kerang Wetlands supports a variety of native plants and animals including Macquarie Perch (Macquaria australasica), Warty Bell Frog (Litoria raniformis), Freckled Duck (Stictonetta naevosa), Great Egret ( Ardea alba), Pied Cormorant (Phalacrocorax varius), and Whiskered Tern (Childonias hybridus).
