The architectural history of Maitland can be explored on foot using the heritage walks developed by the Maitland Visitors Information Centre.

The East Maitland Heritage Walk takes 2.5 hours to walk, or 20 minutes to drive. Attractions include Caroline Chisholm's cottage 1840, St. Peter's Church of England 1886 and 27 other old buildings and sites.

The city of Maitland's many restored and heritage protected buildings date from as far back as the 1820's and serve as monuments to the pioneering days, when white settlers endeavoured to make their mark on the Hunter Valley's beautiful natural landscapes.
