Ewens Ponds Conservation Park, located 13km east of Port MacDonnell, is a unique spring fed system which is popular site for snorkelling and scuba.

Unlike Piccaninnie Ponds, it does not have a deep chasm or cave, instead consisting of 3 shallow basin shaped ponds.

Approx 10m deep, clarity of the water enables plants to grow to a depth of around 6m. Some of the plants cannot be found growing fully submerged anywhere else.

The ponds are home to a variety of fish. The rare Ewens Pygmy Perch can be found hiding in the reeds, and freshwater crayfish can be seen scavenging for food on the ponds floor at night. Please note that all plants and animals are protected and must not be disturbed.

Ideal for divers without cave qualifications, access is via a dirt road signposted from Mt Gambier and Port MacDonnell. The ponds can be dived year round, but it's best to choose a sunny day.
