Covering 27,300ha in the southwest corner of Victoria, bordering South Australia, Lower Glenelg National Park is a fascinating environment home to a rich variety of bush plants and animals.
With a number of picnic and camping sites, boat ramps, lookouts and even a cave; Lower Glenelg National Park is a great spot with something for everyone.
The central feature is the Glenelg River, which has carved a spectacular gorge up to 50m deep through the limestone. River erosion and rainwater have created the remarkable Princess Margaret Rose Cave, and commercial boat trips are available to the cave from Nelson.
Points of interest include Jones Lookout, the Bulley Ranges, and the Inkpot. The Lower Glenelg NP's many activities include canoeing, bushwalking and fishing; all excellent reasons to visit the park. Please take all rubbish home.
Glenelg estuary provides an excellent salt water habitat for a wide variety of fish, including mulloway, bream, mullet, salmon trout and estuary perch - making it one of Australia's most popular fishing spots.
Please note that pets, firearms and wood cutting are prohibited. Access is from the Portland-Nelson Road or via Dartmoor. Permits are required for camping, please contact Parks Victoria detailed information on where to obtain.
