Block Arcade

The elegant Block Arcade built in 1891 is worth a visit, even if you aren't excited about shopping. The arcade features imported Italian mosaic floors, glazed ceilings supported by elaborate iron-lace columns and octagonal glass domes.

The shopping centre features over 1000 square metres of retail space and houses a number of smaller specialty retailers. The Block also forms part of the Magnificent Seven Arcades network, a series of arcades and malls that are all within walking distance of each other.

Historically speaking the 'The Block', was Melbournes most fashionable shopping street. 'Doing the Block' consisted of walking up and down in the late afternoon or on a Saturday morning.
