Spread over 6 levels in 22 separate buildings, the State Library of Victoria covers a two-hectare city site. This is a magnificently restored heritage space right in the centre of Melbourne and easily one of the most recognised landmarks around. The library's vast resources are used for study, research, exhibitions and events. The cafe - Mr Tulk - features fine food, there are purpose-built reading rooms, galleries and exhibition spaces. The library's Chess collection is one of the three largest public chess collections in the world with over 12,000 items including books, tournament reports, magazines and pamphlets.

The Library runs regular tours for students, new users and anyone else interested in learning more about how the Library works, its history and its buildings.
