Additional InfoMoreton Island is the third largest sand island in the world and forms much of the eastern side of Moreton Bay. Situated 34km's from Brisbane, the island is 38km long, and 9km across at its widest point and covers 185 sq. km.
The island consists entirely of sand apart from a small area of sandstone and rhyolite at Cape Moreton. Several different dune types, of differing ages are recognised by their form and soil development. Mt. Tempest is considered the highest coastal sand dune in the world at 285m.
Getting ThereTangalooma's high-speed catamarans depart from Brisbane's Holt St Wharf at Pinkenba daily. The wharf is easily accessible being only a 15-minute drive from the CBD and 10 minutes from Brisbane Airport. Coach transfers from Brisbane Airport, Roma Street Transit Centre and selected CBD hotels can be booked on request. You also have the option of taking a helicopter and arrive in true style.
