Wow, its got to be the first hostel I've stayed in that has exposed wooden floorboards in my dorm, leather sofas and armchairs in the living room and a grand staircase!
This is a really nice hostel that manages to seem grand but down to earth at the same time. It is just the right size and feels kind of homely. I can see why people get sucked in and end up staying here ages. Its almost has house share feel to it. Everyone I met was really friendly there too. There was a bunch of long termers when I was there who were really nice. They offer a decent free breakfast (and stuff doesn't run out either!) and other free stuff like ice cream, free dinner, pancakes Sunday morning and they staying here also gives you discounts for places in the area.
It's in a REALLY cool part of Melbourne. its so funky around there, with loads of wicked bars and cafes and cool little shops. You can walk into the centre too. Ideal. The staff have all been friendly especially a guy called Ross who helped me with my bags! The bathrooms were always clean (just be careful for that shower where the hot tap is actually the cold tap) and the laundry is better than most I've seen.
