Aquarius Backpackers Motel

You couldn't be much closer to the beach, and Aquarius offers a lot more than most budget traveller accommodation. The pool is surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and a massive pizza oven (I hope they still do the communal build-your-own-pizza nights - well worth it). The decor is funky and casual, with a brightly painted mural on the walls.

I was lucky enough to stay in one of the luxury studio apartments - a split level room with a spa bath and balconies offering views of the local area. Maybe a little pricey for the usual backpacker budget but a good value alternative to a hotel - plus you have the buzzing social life of the backpacker scene.
