The Old Mount Gambier Gaol

I nearly left this backpackers after waiting ages for reception, but I am so glad I stayed (having used other backpackers in Mt. Gambier I had no desire to go back to any of them). It is a prison, so straight up, it's pretty cool just 'coz you get to stay in a prison complete with prison toilets. But it is also a comfortable hostel. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are not too crowded, and the communal areas are terrific. There is a welcoming covered outdoor area that can be enjoyed without causing too much hassle to guests who don't want to be disturbed and a cosier indoor area for when it gets too cold. There is always room for one more at the table. And obviously, security was fabulous! :) This was a friendly and laid back hostel, and a whole lot better than any other in Mount Gambier!
