Shangri-La is the name of a mythical Utopian valley hidden deep in the Tibetan mountains. It is a place of peace, agelessness and enduring happiness. It is also the name of one of Sydney's more luxurious hotels. I've enjoyed staying there 3 times in the past 4 years, and each time I've been impressed with the quality of the facilities, the professionalism of the staff, and the luxurious atmosphere.
Although a stay at Shangri-La is not cheap, there are often very good deals and packages available which are extremely competitive. There are only a handful of hotels in Sydney that can match it for quality, experience and location. It's heard to beat the view of the Harbour Bridge from that aspect - facing northeast along along the same parallel (as opposed to northwest/southeast which is the standard postcard view).
There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, or the room service menu is a very decent alternative, although it is quite pricey. The beds are soft, and the rooms climate-controlled, with block-out blinds for the light-sensitive sleepers.
I've never been disappointed with the Shangri-La, and although it's not cheap, you get what you pay for. Would recommend, and look forward to my next stay. (Date of experience: Feb, 2009 )
