I chose Willis's Walkabout in order to visit in 2007 the remote and isolated Drysdale River National Park, in the Kimberley, because only Willis's' walkabout sells this trip, and certainly I was not disappointed!
The trip, completely on foot except for the arrival and the departure in the National Park, took place during two weeks between the end of June 2007 and the beginning of July 2007: the guide of Willis's Walkabout was able to lead our group with great skill in a national park where even regular footpaths lack! Rock hopping and walks through grasses were usual ways to proceed, but it proved to be amazingly easy after a short while, provided that you have a passable degree of fitness, but you can allow for the fact that even a 74-year-old man succeeded in carrying out the tour (I was 39-years old). The guide always looked after each of us (we were nine of us altogether, guide included) and this let us solve any problems that could arise.
We were able to see a really untamed land, where on average only 100 persons a year show. We saw wonderful savannah-like vegetation, gorgeous escarpments and rocks, a lot of birds and kangaroos, several dingoes, crocs and snakes, unbelievable landscapes, lovely dawns and sunsets: the environment was such that I had a continuous feeling that a dinosaur could show at any moment!
I thank God to have let me see such a place! But in the second place I have to thank also Willis's Walkabout that has proved to be the right operator to live an unforgettable experience!
The only condition, a proper degree of fitness apart, is that you like this kind of experience: when I came back to Italy, many friends and acquaintances of mine were horrified at the thought we were completely isolated in the wilderness (an emergency satellite phone apart) and that we had no access to a normal toilet and to city waterworks. If you cannot bear it, or if you are afraid that a tick could stick to you, these kind of trips are not for you. These difficulties did not seem very serious to me and, however, the reward in return was fantastic! If you like travelling on foot and if you want to live this kind of experience in the wilderness in an Australian national park or in another region of the world, I think that Willis's Walkabout should be considered among the top choices as a tour operator.
