We completed our first trip on the Spirit of Tassie II last Friday 13 Jan 12 - a day voyage. In a word - boring and expensive. As has been mentioned here, these ships are really night ferries and there is not much to do or see on a day voyage of at least 10 hours duration. We booked the 'recliner seats' and they are a waste of money. These seats are near the stern of the ship, above the propeller shafts and there is a constant vibration which is quite annoying. I noticed many of the people who had these seats didn't use them and spent time in the forward part of the ship which was much quieter. The main restaurant doesn't open for day voyages and the cafe food is a bit ordinary. Staff were friendly and helpful. Do the sums before you make this trip - I think if you are going for less than a couple of weeks, leave your car at home, fly to Tassie and hire a car there. If I did the trip again, I'd book a cabin for a night voyage, pop a sleeping tablet and spend 8 hours in dreamland! (Date of experience: Jan, 2012 )
