The Greenhouse Backpacker

I stayed here for about 5 months and it was really great. Big common areas and lots of hostel perks. Free breakfast, free internet which you will NOT find very often in Australia, free supper and pancake breakfast once a week. The facilities are really clean, you actually SEE cleaning staff all the time :) There was also a constant stream of improvements while I was there: updated laundry area (although the dryers suck balls still), new gas range in kitchen, new computers. After I left they also redid the rooftop and I think they fixed up the tv area and got in some new couches etc. The only negative thing really about this place is the staff. There are a few wonderful staff members like Paul, Shannon and shorter girl with blond hair...these guys ROCK. You often feel like you've done something wrong for asking a question, you know, after they are finished up with their conversation with each other. Its a bit like they forget that backpackers pay the bills at the hostel, and their wages to be exact. A little customer service would go a long way in making this hostel truly spectacular. But don't let the staff deter you...this was a really good hostel to stay at.
