I visited Ashrowan in October last year and wished that I had booked in a whole week rather than just a weekend! Set in the amazingly quaint town of Berrima in the Southern Highlands, the moment you arrive you feel worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Ashrowan is a big country house which has been created with tranquility and relaxation in mind. From the cosy lounge with fireplace and well stocked bookcase to the beautiful gardens to the delicious home cooked breakfasts, it is a perfect place to visit to get away from it all.
We stayed in the Tower room which is beautifully furnished and overlooks the valley. It is located up a flight of stairs from the living room so it is very private. We also had a sticky beak at the Grayswood room while we were there which looked amazing and has its own private courtyard.
During the day we strolled through Berrima town centre which is only a short walk away and went on the Court house tour which was great. We also spent one morning checking out the Bowral tulip festival which takes place every spring. For those who love the country but want the culinary choices of the city, we went to Eschalot which is a SMH one hat restaurant and had a lovely 6 course degustation dinner.
I've stayed at a number of B&Bs over the years, but Ashrowan really stands out as one of the best. I would highly recommend it for those looking for a relaxing weekend getaway. (Date of experience: Oct, 2009 )
