I personally have stayed at numerous motels on Australias East Coast and I have to say I was very disappointed with the AMORA. I found the staff to be disinterested and rude (except for one bartender, who was lots of fun). My wife and I were back in Melbourne for a wedding and I decided to treat us to what I thought was a quality, luxurious motel (how wrong I was). We spent the first night (roughly 5 hours) in the foyer watching the AFL and drinking cocktails and having a great time. At some point we struck up a conversation with the only other two people in the room, who happened to be a young couple on a romantic weekend. Now after a few drinks, admittedly we were a little tipsy and having a merry old time, but by no means were we out of control, yet when the night manager came on the front desk (Friday 10 August), we were treated like second class citizens and made to feel like we were not welcome and were under surveillance. The next morning we woke at 6:30 AM and went down for breakfast. The food was terrible; the cereal bowls werent clean; the fruit and cheese platter looked and smelled like it had been there for a week; the scrambled eggs well lets just say they looked scary and bacon had obviously been in there for a long time. Dont even try the hash browns that early in the morning, I nearly choked. We ended up eating very little and buying our own breakfast elsewhere. We stayed at the AMORA for another night and left the next day (we had to stay as you can not get refund when booking through Wotif.com) and upon checking out, we were handed another package that was included in our deal. We were informed that they could not give this to us yesterday as we had the do not disturb sign up (come on, surely you can pop a note under the door informing us that there is a package for us). The girl at reception even questioned whether we still wanted the package since we were now leaving (we took it anyway). The icing on the cake was when we were informed that we would be charged an additional $16 for parking in their car park, at first I questioned the receptionist about this and the answer I got was well you could pay up to $46 in the city for parking. As you can imagine by this point the whole experience was laughable and certainly not worth arguing, so I paid the bill and vowed never to return. AMORA management, you need to invest in training your staff in customer service and ensure that any food presented to customers, is eatable.
