My wife and I have mixed feelings about this place. First the good points … Cassawong Cottages is in a brilliant location, just a few steps from one of Australia's best beaches. We had a great time wandering along the beach each morning and were even lucky enough to see a whale off the coast. The cottages are also close to a boat shuttle service which goes to Dunk Island.
The cottages themselves are in good condition and the place has a nice atmosphere about it, being under a palm canopy which, if anything, provided a bit too much shade for the cottages and the pool. I’m sure this would come into its own if we had visited in the height of summer. We had one of the cottages at the back of the property, which I’d recommend for additional privacy.
On the downside, the owners need to improve the service. The hot water was in short supply and the kitchen was under-equipped. The reception never seemed to be open when I went to ask a question. You get the impression once you arrive that you’re “on your own”. Great from a privacy point of view, not so great if you actually need something.
We were also lucky our neighbours were quiet as the louvred-style cottages aren’t that far apart.
We had a fun stay, as a couple who ate out each night and barely used the kitchen. But I’d think twice before booking there again. (Date of experience: Aug, 2008 )
