Maybe we were there on a bad week...and maybe things have evened out in the past five years...but we found the park at Blackall to be large and impersonal, and we were just another number...which is unusual when visiting western Queensland..having said that, the park is clean with a choice of cement slabs or grassy sites, quite unusual when visiting the west :) The amenities blocks are scrupulously clean, but hot water is hard to find.. Blackall is one of the larger western towns, and has lots of things for the traveller to enjoy. Here is where you will find the famed 'Black Stump'....they have a good information centre manned by volunteers who love to share their, proud history which includes Jackie Howe and a unique Woolscour. Blackall has an aquatic centre that uses natural artesian water...warm and relaxing... At the local Bakery, you will find butterscotch muffins to die for....if for no other reason, the butterscotch muffins make Blackall a 'stop-over' must. From here you can either travel north to Barcaldine or south to Augathella ...on a well sealed double carriage-way road, or west to the Outer Barcoo and Isisford also on a sealed road, and an alternative route to Longreach via Isisford.
