Sweeps of brilliant sceen printed chiffon, from ceiling to floor, hooked me into T'Arts Collective's showcase shop at 10 Gays Arcade off Adelaide Arcade. I found plenty to look at and lust for in the half hour I had to spare, so I skipped a cup of coffee at Arcade cafes and stayed to browse.
Colour and craftsmanship linked the variety of art works on show. The standard was consistently high, and some pieces were outstanding in their originality and fine finish.
Highlights for me: felted capes and scarves in subtle natural dyes; pocket-sized sculptures and brooches beaded in deep blues, burgundies, turquoise; roomy lightweight natural hide bags,a metre-wide landscape panel, in glowing red and blue glass with a hint of that material's transparency.
And those little etchings, or the unisex shirts in colours and motifs from paintings by the Masters ...
T'Arts Collective is a great place for discerning travellers looking for high quality, portable and utterly Australian gifts to take home. Easy to find in the heart of the shopping district, too.
